YARMOUTH -- Organizers of an event focusing on municipal planning hope people will plan to attend.
Scheduled for Wednesday, March 23, the session is part of Reinventing Rural, a series of luncheons presented by the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce.
The third session in the series will look at preparing for and managing future growth.
Brad Fulton, senior planner for the municipalities of Yarmouth, Argyle and Barrington, and Caroline Robertson, director of planning for the Town of Yarmouth, will be guest speakers for the noon-hour event at the Rodd Grand Hotel.
The presentation will look at how the planning process has evolved in the context of the Yarmouth area’s economic challenges.
Robertson says she welcomes the chance to speak to groups about planning.
“People are really interested in the kind of work that we’re doing,” she said. “I’ve kind of put out a general message that it you’re interested in planning and you’d like to find out what the town’s doing, then I’m happy to come and speak.”
The Reinventing Rural series began last fall with a presentation by Peter Nicholson on a follow-up to the Ivany commission’s report. The second session, held in January, highlighted some new business enterprises in the Yarmouth area.
Loretta Davis, chair of the Yarmouth chamber’s marketing and promotions committee, says the series was meant to show that businesses can succeed in a rural setting.
“The chamber launched the Reinventing Rural series to underscore the premise that our rural location does not need to be a disadvantage as we strive for growth and success,” she said.
The response to the series – both the format and the content – has been good, she said.
