South Shore climate study forum to highlight business opportunities

With the scientific evidence comes an interest on how to develop those numbers into economic opportunity.

South Shore Opportunities Inc. with CBDC has organized an agricultural forum on Oct. 22 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m at the Shelburne Community Centre.

Included in the day’s events will be information booths offering financing, training programs and industry supports.

The results from the South West Nova Scotia Termperature and Solar Radiation Study will be available where investment opportunity identification on high-yield agricultural production will be available.

In the early evening there will be a Taste the Goodness culinary event with representitives from Petite Riviere Vineyards, Boxing Rock Brewing Company and Ironworks Distillery for an appetizer sampling session.  Tickets for this part of the event should be purchased in advance.

Keynote speaker, Bruce Wright president of the South Shore Wine Growers Association will address the participants at 5:45 p.m.

At 6 p.m. there will be a presentation on the topo-bathymetric LIDAR sensor and high resolution aerial camera that can be used to survey land elevations and submerged coastal topography useful for assessing crop vigor and health in agriculture and differentiating forest species.

At 6:30 p.m. there will be a panel discussion and an opportunity to advance the study results into the act of growing.
