YARMOUTH - Over 300 tickets have been sold to date for the annual Yarmouth Hospital Foundation Spring Gala at the Mariners Centre taking place Saturday, April 29, at 6 p.m.

This year’s theme is the Big Red Ball, in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary. The event includes a dinner, auction and dance, plus a balloon blitz, table raffle, diamond draw and complimentary photo.

The Maritime band Beer for Iguana will be performing.

With less than three weeks until cocktail hour begins, the Big Red Ball committee is focused on decor details and planning timelines.

Planning committee chair Linda Deveau has nothing but praise for the sponsors, guests, volunteers and contributors to the annual event.

“The Mariners Centre begins its transformation the week prior to the gala, with centre staff and volunteers turning the theme from concept to reality,” she said.

“Everyone strives for the ‘wow’ factor when guests walk through the door.

Without revealing too much, Deveau says “there will be lots to be proud of as a Canadian, with red and white being the dominant colors, food and beverages reflecting our Canadian tastes and dancing to a wonderful local Maritime band... and yes, of course, there will be a big red ball!”

The annual event is a major fundraiser for the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.

Over $54,000 was raised at the 2016 gala towards an operating room anesthesia upgrade. Over the past 12 years, in excess of $460,000 has been raised for the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Funds have been used to help with various equipment purchases and hospital needs.

This year, funds will go towards the purchase of 10 blood pressure monitors for the cardiac department and perioperative nursing. The monitors will cost $45,185. The Yarmouth Regional Hospital serves residents in Shelburne, Digby and Yarmouth counties.

Cost per plate is $150 and includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner, wine and entertainment.

Corporate tables of eight can be reserved.
