DIGBY, NS – The Digby Care 25 foundation has donated $2,765 to the TLC Animal Shelter.

The group made the donation Sunday, September 24, presenting it to Dorothy Andrews and Joan Nelson, two of the shelter’s volunteers.

The group was chosen September 10 after a successful presentation made by Andrews, emphasizing the ongoing cost of building maintenance facing the shelter.

“We’re so thankful to have received this donation because we’ve been having a hard time financially. Digby Care is a wonderful group of people,” said Andrews.

Tight budget and high costs

The shelter is entirely volunteer-run. Costs like food, vet bills, cleaning supplies and building maintenance mean funds usually run tight.

“At the animal shelter, we tend to see the bad side of people, who leave cats abandoned,” said Andrews.

“This was especially nice, because it shows the good side and proves people are passionate about animals, and animal welfare.”

Nelson is also so happy the shelter received the donation.

“With the winter coming, the oil was our big concern. Now we don’t have to worry about that,” said Nelson.

“This came at a time when we really needed money, which makes it even more special.”

The money will be put towards the shelter’s general revenue, to go towards all costs.

Andrews has volunteered at the shelter for over 25 years. Money has always been tight, but the building has put more strain on an already tight budget.

Anyone looking to donate can do so in person at the shelter, or can visit the shelter’s Facebook group for a list of ways to donate. Tax receipts are always provided.
