MELBOURNE, N.S. – A March 3 morning fire has completely destroyed a home in Melbourne, Yarmouth County.

A passer-by had discovered the fire on the Melbourne Road and alerted the fire department.

The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters from the Yarmouth Fire Department arrived on the scene.

Firefighters from the Wedgeport fire department provided mutual aid.

Peter Winship of the Yarmouth department says there was little firefighters could do to save the property after arriving on scene around 6 a.m.

"When we arrived it was fully involved," he says. "It was just a matter of doing an exterior attack."

No one was home at the time of the fire. And around 7:30 a.m. the fire department was still trying to track down and contact the property owner. Eventually word was gotten to the person who owns the property.

Winship said it was unknown at that time what had caused the blaze. A cause of the fire would be investigated.
