Canada Day celebrations took place again this year on the Yarmouth waterfront and at the playground in south end.

Festivities began at 8 a.m. on the waterfront with a breakfast in support of Yarmouth Town & County Crime Prevention Association

At 11 a.m. the BBQs were fired up to serve hot dogs.

The Seafest queen contestants appeared around 12 followed by the singing of O Canada, the raising of the Canadian flag and the cutting of the cake.

Dancers from the Mackenzie School of Dance kicked off the afternoon of entertainment.

Then The Martinellis performed from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Les Audacieux (The Acadians) and their classic country music entertained from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Hourglass provided the music after them and the band Moses Corey closed the day off following Hourglass.

Despite the overcast weather (the sun broke through briefly) there was a big crowd on the waterfront behind the Killam Brothers building for most of the day.

All entertainment and food (except for the breakfast) was free.

Canada Day activities at the Yarmouth South Playground are held each year for youngsters from 12 until 5 p.m.

Entertainment is provided, there were prizes and games.
