At the Sign of the Whale Gallery is opening its season with the exhibition called Maritime Art from Private Collections.
The exhibit includes works by Bruno Bobak, Molly Lamb Bobak, Charles Flewelling and Claude Roussel, who are all New Brunswick-based artists.
Closer to home the exhibition includes work by Yarmouth County artists Elizabeth Cann, Cecil Day, Lucy Jarvis, Ruth Rideout, Nelson Surette, Lester Sykes and Helen Weld.
There is one piece by Canada’s most famous folk artist Maud Lewis, an historical oil by Forshaw Day (1837-1903), and work by former Bridgewater master craftsman Herbert Hatt. The exhibit is rounded out with works by Nova Scotia artists John Cook, Leroy Zwicker and David Silverberg.
Gallery owner Michael Morris says having this collection available by these outstanding Maritime artists is a rare opportunity for people of the area.
The exhibition runs from May 12 to May 26, with the opening reception on Friday, May 11 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
