2014 Yarmouth Gingerbread House Contest winners


Yarmouth - With great concentration, bated breath and lots of sticky fingers, gingerbread houses were carefully built to become yummy works of art at the Yarmouth Mall on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

This was the fourth year for the competition and 16 teams competed. The event was hosted by Madeleine Daues and judged by Chef Robert Leggett of the Bread and Olives Café, artist Tootsie Emin, and architect Eva Stara-Krebser. Committee members included Phil and Janet DeMille.

Sixteen teams competed. Following are the results:

First place winner (and people's choice): "Naughty & Nice" - Darlene, Jerry, Andrew and Shannon Davis (also won contest in 2012).

Other 1st place winners:

Community Organization - "The SHYFTers" from SHYFT House - Adam Dolliver, Morgan Steele and Devon Sabean.

Professional: "The Gallery Gals" - Darcy d'Eon, Angela Collier, Dette MacMillan and Alice d'Entremont (the Art Gallery also donated extra edible decorations).

Teen: ''The Screaming Banshees" - Anita and Meredith James.

Adult: tie between "Hanky Panky Love Birds" - Kelley Penney and Chad Brannen and "Sugar 'n Spice" - Stephanie and Elden Muise and Sherisse Blades.

Youth: "Farm Girls" - Hannah and Bridget DeMille.

Sports Team: "Mariners (Valley)" - Shawn Boudreau, Alex Rawding, Gareth Nicholson and Sean Fraser.

Other competitors received donated coupons. They included: Mariners teams "Orphanage" - Charles Poulin, Ross Martin, Blake Busch, Luc Knight and "CB/NL" - Michael Guerrera, Cole Reginato, Matt Lourenco, Fredrik Morency; the Kay Nickerson Group - Deborah Thibault, Phillip Goodick, Alan Harris, Michael Hagen; "Samantha's Cupcakes" - Samantha, Lerissa, Arabella Leblanc and Green Lee; "Oh Snap" - Monica Hancock, Jeremy Porter, Tristan and Isaiah Doucet in Teen category; "Princesses" (youth) - Emily and Peyton Smith and Kelley Penny. Family tables: "Team Arthur Christmas" - Catherine, John and Barbara Gillis. "Sparkle Berries" - Shelby DeMille and Mackenzie King.
