YARMOUTH - Supporters of the Children’s Wish Foundation Nova Scotia chapter’s latest fundraiser can help out a good cause and satisfy their sweet tooth cravings at the same time.

Pre-paid orders for Krispy Kreme doughnuts can be placed online until March 29, with funds being directed to help grant wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses in the region.

Children’s Wish Foundation Yarmouth co-ordinator Jean Doucette says the Krispy Kreme fundraiser is new to the Children’s Wish Foundation.

“It has been done in previous years (by others) and is always a huge success. We are hoping to have the same results here.”

The doughnuts are shipped fresh from Quebec to 12 locations in the province, Yarmouth being the central destination for this region.

In the past 25 years the Children’s Wish Foundation has granted over 100 wishes in the area.

Doucette says at present the Yarmouth sub-chapter has two wishes that have been approved and is waiting for the families to decide on the dates, as they are both Disney-related wishes.

“We just completed a shopping wish that was an electronic one,” she said.

The young boy chose a 54-inch TV, an X-box with games, an IPad and iPhone 8.

He completed his shopping in Halifax with his family.

Doucette says the organization is preparing for its annual fundraiser - the Princess Tea - on April 8 at Rodd's Grand Hotel.

The funds raised provide wishes to children in the region between the ages of three and 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

“We are also looking forward to hosting the Run for the Wish crewmembers from HMCS Halifax in May or June,” Doucette said.

The Canadian Navy has a proud tradition of supporting the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada.

For years, members of HMCS Halifax have run across Nova Scotia from Sydney, to Halifax then on to Yarmouth, raising money to grant wishes for youngsters fighting life-threatening illnesses.
