YARMOUTH - Book signings for a new novel written by Shelburne-born Herb F. Hopkins will be held in the region this week.
New Found Land tells the story of Luke Delaney, who is trying to quit his addiction to prescription opiates. Nothing has worked – that is, until he meets up with Cuban exile and pharmacologist Dr. Liliana Sanchez, who has some “new found” ways. The story touches down in New Orleans and Havana, but it’s in St John’s, Newfoundland (The City of Dreams) where it takes root.
As Hopkins says, “The city is a character, like an old friend, a handsome one at that.”
Hopkins attended grades 6-12 at Barrington Passage and says he was “big into sports and made many road trips to Yarmouth, Shelburne, Liverpool and Bridgewater - mostly basketball.”
His mother is an Atkinson from Clark's Harbour and his late father was from Barrington Passage. He has been a resident of St. John’s since 1976.
His book sells online for $18.95 plus shipping. He is also the author of A High of Zero.
