The Festival du Bon temps Par-en-Bas will be held in Acadian communities of the Municipality of Argyle (Par-en-Bas) March 16-23 and will feature various activities.

The festival will include two community suppers, the first on Sunday, March 16, featuring storytelling by Laurent d’Entremont and Austin Saulnier, as well as a special dessert by the French chef Guillaume Frouin. The second supper on Sunday, March 23, will feature a rappie pie contest, a variety of French dishes presented by international students of Université Sainte-Anne, dessert by French chef Frouin and music by Les Colibris, Father Albéni, Sally & Eddie. Both suppers will be at Club Acadien in Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau.

The festival will also feature three productions at Salle Père-Maurice-LeBlanc: the play A Fellor pour Florence by Anne LeBlanc, a show by the French hynotist, mentalist and magician Spidey and the launching of a new CD by Acadian artist Julian Babin.

There will be music in three different restaurants: Simon LeBlanc at Dennis Point Café, Eddie Madden at Hickory Hut Restaurant and Philip & Wendell at Red Cap Restaurant.

The festival will feature a day for seniors, a day for children, a conference on mental health & stress and a mass in honour of Saint Joseph, patron saint of Canada. A visual arts exhibit by members of Conseil des arts de Par-en-Bas will be held throughout the festival and will open on March 16 during a wine and cheese at the community centre.

Says a media release from the Conseil acadien de Par-en-Bas, “In organizing this festival, CAPEB wants to work with its various partners and local Acadian artists to give everyone the opportunity to celebrate our Acadian language and culture through the arts. CAPEB invites everyone to come out and enjoy the tremendous talent that our Acadian artists have to offer.”

The festival coincides with Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, a national initiative as part of the events surrounding the Journée Internationale de la Francophonie (March 20), which is celebrated every year around the world to promote the French language and its many cultural expressions.
