The Commission on Inclusive Education is starting it’s public engagement phase on Tuesday, Nov. 21, with a workshop happening at Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School.
The Nov. 21 session at YCMHS will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Space is limited, so pre-registration is requested. For details on how to submit input, register for a workshop and other details, go to www.inclusiveedns.ca.
The commission is holding public workshops, conducting an online survey and will be providing other ways for people to share their stories.
"We know there are lots of families, teachers, students and others who have been looking forward to this phase of our work," said Sarah Shea, chair of the commission. "We are pleased to launch the public engagement with numerous ways for people to participate."
Nova Scotians can participate in the following ways:
• fill in the online survey from Nov. 21 to Dec. 15
• register for one of the public workshops.
In addition to the Nov. 21 workshop at YCMHS, 146 Forest St., other workshops are happening in Stellarton on Nov. 22 at the NSCC Pictou Campus, 39 Acadia Ave.; Sydney on Nov. 23, Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion, 74 Esplanade and in Halifax on Nov. 27, Pier 21, 1055 Marginal Rd.
Because the commission wants to respect the privacy of participants so there is no media access during the workshops.
People can also share their story by preparing a short video, of two to three minutes, or they can write their vision of a new model of inclusive education to help the commission understand what is working, what is not, and what is possible
A multi-site francophone session, via videoconference, is also planned for Nov. 29, at 6:30 p.m. in partnership with Conseil scolaire acadien provincial. Details on how to participate will be posted on the commission's website.
