“Fishery officers have been at the site,” says DFO communications spokesperson Stephen Bornais.

The lobsters were discarded in a wooded area of the Small Gaines Road the Vanguard was told by a member of the public, who said they contacted DFO last weekend.

The department went to the site.

“They observed a small dump area of banded, legal-sized lobsters,” said Bornais. “The officers did not observe any berried female lobsters.”

The department says the incident is under investigation.

The department has also been investigating the discovery of lobsters in a wooded area of Weymouth, Digby County. In that case various dumpsites in and around Weymouth were discovered. The discarded lobsters included banded legal-size lobsters. But it also included undersized and female lobsters, which are illegal to harvest.
