92 Chebogue RC Sea Cadet Corps holds Annual Ceremonial Review; marking 70 years in community

YARMOUTH – The Annual Ceremonial Review was held for the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps 92 Chebogue on Yarmouth’s waterfront on June 13. The 92 Chebogue corps has been a fixture in Yarmouth for 70 years, helping to train youth in the community in leadership, teamwork and personal discovery.

PO2 Gregory Flemming served as the Master of Ceremonies for the afternoon's proceedings.  

“Today marks the culmination of the Cadets training year and their accomplishments,” he said. “We dedicate all the attention to them during today's ceremony.”

The ceremony commenced with the Marching On of the Corps, followed by the raising of the Ensign and playing of the National Anthem.  The Reviewing Party then conducted the inspection of the Sea Cadets and the Royal Canadian Legion Colour Party. 

The reviewing party was made up of Reviewing Officer Capt. (Ret’d) Greg Burke and Navy League Mainland Division Representative Cmdre (Ret’d) Charles Westropp, who were accompanied by Acting CO Lt(N) Kyla Savary and Navy League President Kevin Mullen.

Parade positions for the event were:

• Coxswain - CPO1 Nicole Deveau

• Guard Petty Officer -  PO1 Kevin Mullen

• Band Major - CPO2 Dilan Thompson

• Anson Division PO - CPO2 Alannah Mullen

Invited guests included town and county representatives, along with represenatives from the Royal Canadian Legion, the Navy League Mainland Branch and Yarmouth Branch, and others.

Following the review and a march past, awards and presentations were handed out. They were as follows:

Most Improved Junior  - AB Austin Kenney

Most Improved Senior - LS Sylvie Leblanc

Best Dressed Junior -  LS Katie d’Eon

Best Dressed Senior - PO2 Clara Doane

Most Proficient Junior - LS Charity Belliveau

Most Proficient Senior - CPO2 Alannah Mullen

Top Fundraiser - LS Katie d’Eon

Ships Company Award - PO1 Shawn Swim

East Camp Veterans Award - PO1 Kevin Mullen

Navy League Awards:

Meritorious Service Award – This award is in recognition of meritorious service to the Navy League for a period of three or more years.  It is awarded according to annual quotas based on cadet population within the quota area (1 per every 200 cadets or part thereof).  To nominate for this award, a League Member or Corps Officer must complete the Award Application accompanied by a minimum of 2 letters of recommendation, including one from a fellow officer and one from the Branch President (unless the officer is a Division Staff Officer); and, any other person wishing to attest to the good character and dedication of the nominee.

The recipient of this award was A/Slt Kyle Muise

Cecil Roy also made a presentation to RCSCC 92 CHEBOGUE during the ceremony.

As well, several Community Service Award certificates were awarded to individuals or organizations who have made a significant contribution, either directly or through support of the League`s objectives, to the local Branch or Cadet Corps. It was noted many had continuously and substantially supported the Corps over the years and especially this past year in helping the Corps to fulfill the goal of sending its Cadets to Ottawa. The list included: Scotiabank, Rudders’ Seafood Restaurant and Brew Pub, CJLS, Web.com, Rotary Club, Yarmouth Mall, Sobeys, Tim Hortons, Dollarama, Canadian Tire, Jakes, Yarmouth Red & White, WL Nelson, Pleasant Supplies, NAPA Auto Supplies, Pharmasave, City Drug, Credit Union, Branch #61 – Legion, Home Hardware, Superstore, Dayton Red & White, E & J Millworks, Mariners Centre, Petro Can and Huskilson’s Funeral Home.

The Swim and Bain families received special recycling plaques for continuously depositing to the Bottle Depot account.
