Both incumbents in Digby County were re-elected.
Donna Tidd, who was chair of the board going into the election, received 426 votes. Her challenger Nick Dickinson received 327 votes.
School board members will vote on who will serve as chair and vice-chair of the board at an upcoming meeting.
In the other Digby County race, Faye Haley was re-elected with 702 votes. Her opponent Scott Millar received 413 votes.
In Yarmouth town and municipality, Michael Drew had a large margin of victory over John Levac. Drew pulled in 1,281 votes and Levac finished with 373 votes. Voter turn ranged from under 10 per cent in some areas covered by the seat to 54 per cent in the town.
Because incumbent Joan Brewer opted to run in a different district this election, that race in the municipality of Yarmouth included two incumbents, Brewer and Dolores Atwood. Also running for the seat was Ken Saulnier.
Atwood won the seat with 502 votes. Joan Brewer was defeated with 321 votes and Ken Saulnier had 205 votes. Only 28.7 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot in this race.
In the race for the seat covering District 1 in the Municipality of Argyle and District 2 in the Municipality of Yarmouth, Sandra Fitzgerald was elected with 1,818 votes. Brian Lewis had 666 votes. This seat had previously been held by long-term board member Ron Hines, who did not reoffer in this election.
In addition to Hines, three other board members also did not reoffer – they included Alvin Comeau, Andy Baxter and Elizabeth Acker.
In the Clare seat that had been held by Comeau, Donna Frison-LeBlanc was elected by acclamation.
In the Shelburne seat that had been held by Acker (who had served as board vice-chair for the past year), Patricia Nickerson was acclaimed to the board.
In the Yarmouth seat that had been held by Baxter, Melanie Surette-Kenney was acclaimed to the board. (Incidentally, Baxter ran for a seat on Yarmouth Municipal Council and won that race.)
Also back on the board by acclamation is Andrea Huskilson-Townsend, representing the Barrington region.
Michael Alden Fells was acclaimed as the African Nova Scotian member of the board.
The Mi’kmaq seat on the board is an appointed position. It has been held by Janice Francis.
