The RCMP Traffic Services has charged a Shelburne County man for alleged impaired driving while operating a golf cart.
According to an RCMP media release, on June 1 just before 8:30 p.m., the RCMP Traffic Services were finishing up a traffic stop near Pubnico, Yarmouth County, on Highway 103 when an officer noticed a golf cart driving illegally on the road.
The RCMP officer stopped the golf cart and noticed open liquor, and signs that the driver was allegedly impaired. The golf cart was towed and the driver was taken to a nearby detachment for a breath test.
The 47-year-old man from Upper Woods Harbour is facing charges of Impaired Driving and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Content over 80mg. He will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court Aug. 15.
The RCMP remind citizens that if you choose to operate any motor vehicle (i.e. boat, lawn tractor, segway, ATV etc.) after consuming alcohol or drugs, you can be charged with impaired driving. If convicted, a person risks losing their privilege of operating a vehicle in Canada for up to one year, and could also be handed a hefty fine.
