TC Media Nova Scotia Weeklies' newsrooms honoured at Newspapers Atlantic competition

HALIFAX - TC•Media’s weekly papers in southwest Nova Scotia were recognized for excellence April 25 at the Newspapers Atlantic Better Newspapers Competition.

A joint project between TC•Media newsrooms across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland was the winner in the online innovation category. A Week That Changed Our World captured the small moments of life that often pass us by.

The Yarmouth Vanguard received the best special section award for its Lobster Outlook in November, while Kings County Register cartoonist Jason Freeman won in the best cartoonist category for his June 19 cartoon illustrating the Waterville airport closure.

The Vanguard was also the recipient of the general excellence award in the larger circulation class, while the Digby Courier was the recipient of general excellence in a smaller circulation class.

Journalists from across the Nova Scotia Weekly Newspapers group were standing finalists in a number of categories.

“I’m so proud of the work of all of our journalists,” said managing editor Jennifer Vardy Little. “They all strive to tell the stories of their communities each and every day. It’s an absolute honour to see their hard work recognized by Newspapers Atlantic among such a large group of talented finalists.”
