Kevin Ellis came up with that catch phrase to describe this year’s Richard Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament at the Digby Pines Golf Course.

This year’s event will be its third annual and will be held Wednesday, June 28 at the Digby Pines beginning at 1 p.m.

Ellis and Mike Bartlett, two Digby residents who’ve played in the tournament every year, are on board this year as the event’s coordinators.

“It’s something people have fun with,” says Ellis.

The tournament was created by the Digby & Area Health Services Foundation to raise money for healthcare in Digby County.

It's named in memory of Ellis’ father, Richard Ellis, who was a prominent Digby resident involved with many groups and initiatives including the health foundation, the health board and owned and operated the Ellis Chevrolet dealership.

Its main focus is new medical equipment at the hospital, such as the new ultrasound machine donated by the foundation in conjunction with Digby Care 25.

The first tournament was held three years ago and raised $2,500 for the health foundation.

The foundation also supports local groups such as Safety for Seniors.

“This charity is great because all the money raised stays in the community,” says Ellis.

This year is planned to be bigger and better. NHL alum Joe DePinta, who won the Stanley Cup in 2007 with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, will also be at the tournament.

Teams of four can sign up for $600 to join the tournament. Individuals can also join for $150. Tickets include the golf tournament, dinner and entertainment.

“It’s a chance to get out and mingle, to go out with your neighbours and to support local charity and have fun while doing it,” says Bartlett.

Many sponsors have signed on to help the tournament. Donations can still be made and teams and individuals can join by contacting either Ellis at 247-2363 / [email protected] or Bartlett at 247-3966 / [email protected].
