West Pubnico business, RCMP hope video helps nab alleged ATV thieves

PUBNICO – Whoever took an ATV from Paul d’Entremont Marine Ltd. in the early hours of Thursday, Feb. 12 didn’t get far with it.

That’s because the vehicle was already damaged and was at the business to be repaired.

Damage to a gate at the back of the property and cut wires tripped an alarm around 2 a.m.

“I was called at home. As soon as they cut the wires the alarm went off and (the alarm monitoring company) called me probably within 10 seconds,” explained owner Julie Muise, who went to the business right away.

She figures she just missed the alleged culprits by mere minutes.

The Yarmouth Rural RCMP were immediately called and went to the business to investigate.

The RCMP and the business owner watched video feeds recorded at the business and were able to determine which direction the ATV was taken. It was located not far from the business.

“It was damaged because it was getting fixed, that’s why it was here,” says Muise. “They didn’t get far.”

The business has posted a video on its Facebook page of two people who were captured on video surveillance at the business around the time the alarm went off.

Within three hours of the video being posted Feb. 12, it had been shared on Facebook more than 630 times. Muise is hoping someone might recognize the two people.

RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Jennifer Clarke of the RCMP was unable to say whether the two people on the recording were involved or may have information about the incident.

Clarke said she is aware a video was circulating on Facebook, but she hadn't personally reviewed it.

“That’s the one time we really appreciate Facebook, because things usually tend to work themselves out sometimes when that becomes involved,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Pubnico business owner is happy the ATV was retrieved.

Muise said the business  has both alarms and multiple-angle surveillance cameras.
