MIDDLETON - Annapolis District RCMP didn’t get a chance to slow down for the Christmas holidays. In fact they were as busy as ever and dealing with an assortment of calls ranging from missing persons, assaults, thefts, accidents, and a lot more over the week of Dec. 18 to 25.
On Dec. 22 police held their third Cram-the-Cruiser Food Drive and were able to collect a combined total of 1,100 pounds of food and over $700 cash for the local food banks.
RCMP Const. Dave Fairfax and Community Programs Officer Adam Burns stood in the cold to collect the food and were pleased with the response of the public.
“We would like to thank the generosity of Annapolis County citizens as well as the assistance of our community partner Family Matters,” said Fairfax.
Following are some of the calls for the week:

-- Dec. 18 at 9 a.m. at Port Lorne. A man visited the RCMP detachment to advise he had received a notice of revocation from police regarding an old gun. The man looked for the gun but was unable to find it.
-- Dec. 18 at 11:35 a.m. at Upper Granville. Police stopped a vehicle on Highway 1 and charged a 45-year-old woman with speeding. If found guilty she will pay a fine of $237.50. Police either warned or charged 29 other motorists in Annapolis County for speeding violations during the week.
-- Dec. 18 at 11:43 a.m. at Lawrencetown. Police received a complaint that an 84-inch snow pusher had been stolen from a business in Lawrencetown sometime between Dec. 13 and 15. The theft is under investigation.
-- Dec. 18 at 11:44 a.m. at Middleton. A Middleton service station reported that a person drove off with $25 worth of gas without paying. Staff identified a suspect and police will contact the person and determine further action at that time.
-- Dec. 19 at 5:11 p.m. at Lequille. Police were called to a complaint of assault. A woman reported being assaulted by her son. Police entered into an investigation and have arrested a 31-year-old man and have charged him with assault. He has been released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date.
-- Dec. 19 at 7:48 p.m. at Clementsport. Police received a complaint of two ATVs racing on the road. Police made a patrol to the area but were not able to locate the ATVs and were unsure of the identifications of the drivers. Police will keep an eye out while on patrol in the area.
-- Dec. 20 at 4:08 p.m. at Port Lorne. Police received a complaint of theft from a house. The caller reported that someone took two six-foot house jack stands sometime within the last week. Police are investigating.
-- Dec. 21 at 12:51 p.m. at Nictaux. Police were called to a complaint of a break-and-enter into a residence. The home had been broken into and ransacked. This was the home of a recently deceased man and was not occupied at the time of the break-in. Police have entered into an investigation.
-- Dec. 21 at 4:59 p.m. at Melvern Square. Police received a call about a domestic dispute in progress. Police went to the scene and as a result took a 21-year-old man into custody. He has been charged with possession of weapons, failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking, and carrying a concealed weapon. He has been remanded into custody and will attend court at a later date.
-- Dec. 22 at 11:09 a.m. at Albany Cross. Police received a report about two missing women. The caller told police she had received a call from the missing pair who worked for her. Their vehicle had broken down on a back road and they were lost. RCMP operations communication centre in Truro was able to ping the cell phone of one of the lost women and pinpointed their location enabling RCMP to find them. Police transport them to the Digby area where they arranged their own transportation home to Yarmouth. There were cold but uninjured.
-- Dec. 22 at 7:56 p.m. at Middleton. Police were called to a complaint of theft where two unidentified females entered the NSLC and made off with a bottle of vodka. The theft is under investigation.
-- Dec. 22 at 8:22 p.m. at Wilmot. Police received a 911 hang-up call from a residence in Wilmot. On call-back there was no answer. Police went to the scene and learned from the caller that she had been choking on some food and had called 911 for help. She was able to clear her airway and declined any further medical attention.
-- Dec. 22 at 8:58 p.m. at Meadowvale. Police were called to a residence to remove a person who was heavily intoxicated. Police went to the scene and as a result took a 22-year-old man into custody who they lodged in cells over night and released when he was sober.
-- Dec. 22 at 10:16 p.m. at Waldec. Police were called to a complaint of mischief involving damage to property. Police went to the scene and arrested and charged a 37-year-old woman with mischief and failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking. The accused was held in custody until her appearance in court on Dec. 27 where she pleaded guilty to the charges.
-- Dec. 23 at 12 p.m. at Granville Ferry. Police were called to a two-vehicle crash involving an ATV. Annapolis fire and EHS were also on the scene. It appears speed was a factor in the collision. Police issued a summary offense ticket to the driver of the ATV, an 18-year-old man, for failing to yield to a vehicle making a left-hand turn. There were minor injuries. Both vehicles had to be towed.
-- Dec. 23 at 4:59 p.m. at Wilmot. Police received a complaint of an unwanted person who the caller felt was intoxicated. The person was walking down the road attempting to stop cars. Police patrolled but were unable to locate the man.
-- Dec. 24 at 12:07 a.m. Highway 201, Meadowvale. Police conducted a checkpoint stopping a number of cars checking for infractions. During the week five other checkpoints were conducted in the county as police wanted to promote safe driving during the holiday and in the New Year.
