TUSKET - With water levels declining and no sign of heavy precipitation in the forecast, EMO Argyle is reminding residents to keep an eye on their neighbours – especially those living alone or most vulnerable – and will be assisting residents with resources and options for those who are significantly affected.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 20, EMO Argyle will be providing the following assistance:

Drinking water

The municipality has a supply of 4L jugs of drinking water to be given to residents. There is a 16L limit per household per pickup. Pickup locations are as follows:

▪ Carl’s Store, Tusket
▪ La Shoppe à Carl, Wedgeport
▪ Co-op De La Tour, Lower West Pubnico.

Note that residents will be required to give their name, phone number and civic address before receiving the water.

Water delivery

Through its public works department, the municipality will take requests for water delivery for those with mobility, transportation or medical issues. Those who require this service can call (902) 648-2623 or request the service through homecare or the senior safety co-ordinator.

Water sources

Potable water is available to the public to fill small or large containers at the Mariners Centre - 45 Jody Shelley Drive, Yarmouth.

(Just a further note: The Mariners Centre says it is offering free water fill-ups and showers to those affected by dry wells. At the present time the service is only available between 8 am and 4 pm Monday to Friday. As the facility's schedule changes it will provide updated hours of operation on its Facebook page.)

Future consideration for other water sources will be determined as needed.

Compiling list of those with issues

The municipality urges its residents to continue updating them on their situation so that they can get a clear picture of how many are affected by this dry summer, and what further actions may need to be taken. The municipality appreciates all those that have offered to help in any way possible and encourages everyone to do the same.

Well and drinking water safety

If your well has run dry, there are a few things you need to know to ensure you have safe drinking water. During a water shortage, everyone should do his/her part to conserve water and ensure their drinking water and water in general is safe.
