18-year-old man suffers serious injuries after a collision on Highway 101 near Salmon River exit in Digby County

MAVILLETTE, DIGBY COUNTY, N.S.:  RCMP say an eighteen-year-old man was seriously injured this morning at about 5:44 a.m. after the vehicle he was driving struck a parked tow truck that was assisting a third vehicle on Highway 101 near the Salmon River exit, exit 32 in Digby County.
Police say the
tow truck driver heard the vehicle quickly approaching the area, and got back in the tow truck for his own safety, just before the approaching car struck the tow truck from behind. The tow truck driver and the driver of the truck he was assisting were not injured, however both occupants of the car that struck them suffered injuries, with the 18-year-old driver sustaining serious injuries.

Meteghan RCMP responded to the scene and was assisted by EHS and local volunteer fire fighters. Both occupants of the car were transported by ambulance to hospital. Highway 101 was closed to through traffic at the scene after the incident, and but has since been re-opened. The investigation is ongoing and no names have been released at this time.
