The Region of Queens Municipality CAO Richard MacLellan has resign and will be taking a position with the Town of Bridgewater.

LIVERPOOL - Richard MacLellan, CAO for the Region of Queens Municipality, has resigned from his position and will be working as CAO for the Town of Bridgewater.

“I’ve identified an opportunity to continue my municipal career in a position that enables me to better respond to my family obligations,” said MacLellan.

MacLellan has been with the Region for approximately two years. There is no set date yet for his departure.

“We’ll be working over the coming months on a transition plan,” he said.

David Dagley, mayor of the Region of Queens Municipality, said the CAO’s resignation would impact the Region of Queens somewhat in the short term. The transition period will take a month or two, he said.

“During that period of time, council will look at how we replace our CAO and the process that we will utilize,” said Dagley. “At the end of the day, we will end up with another CAO in the Region of Queens, and we will continue down the path towards growing the population.”

MacLellan said he has shared an amicable relationship with council, so he gave his resignation with mixed sentiments.

Dagley said he did not know the resignation was coming, but he said MacLellan was a good CAO.

“I’ve had a wonderful working relationship with Richard,” said the mayor. “He’s done an excellent job.”

As CAO, MacLellan is head of the administrative section of the municipal organization, which means all staff reports to him. Dagley said a smooth transition would require looking at how existing files and initiatives are handled.

“I look forward to working with council on an effective transition plan, and I’m grateful for the opportunity that I’ve had here,” said MacLellan.
