SYDNEY — Dale Rancourt, known locally as children's entertainer Klutzy the Clown, has pleaded guilty to sexual assault involving a female minor.

Rancourt, 51, known locally for his character Klutzy the Klown, arrived in Sydney provincial court Tuesday morning saying he was "terribly remorseful." He was previously denied bail.

He also pleaded guilty to breaching a court order by being in an area frequented by teens.

Rancourt was initially charged with two counts of sexual interference involving a person under the age of 16 and single counts of sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

The offence occurred in various locations in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality between July 15 and Oct. 16.

Rancourt was also charged with four counts of breaching his release conditions — two counts of failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and two counts of attending places where persons under the age of 18 are likely to be present. The breach offences occurred in Sydney between Nov. 3-10.

Before the plea deal, he was expected to stand trial on all charges beginning this morning.

More to come.
