EAST MOUNTAIN, N.S.

A matter involving a fatal collision Saturday has been turned over to the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) by Colchester District RCMP.

Just before midnight Saturday evening, RCMP, EHS and Valley-Kemptown District Fire Brigade responded to a collision on Pictou Road in East Mountain.

The collision claimed the life of a 59-year-old man from Moncton, N.B., who was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the lone occupant of the Honda Civic.

RCMP had attempted several times to stop the vehicle earlier Saturday evening after receiving an impaired driving complaint. As a result, RCMP has referred the matter to SiRT.

An RCMP Collision Analyst was called to the scene which resulted in a section of Pictou Road being closed for several hours. Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal assisted with the road closure.

Since the matter is now being investigated by SiRT, RCMP won’t discuss further details about the fatal collision.

Anyone with information that pertains to this vehicle prior to the collision, is asked to contact SiRT at 902-424-2010, toll free: 1-855-450-2010 or email: [email protected] .
