As part of Tourism Week, the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association is planning a tourism information session and a familiarization tour, part of an effort to help prepare people for the tourism season.

The information session will take place Thursday, May 31, at the Rodd Grand Hotel and is scheduled for 9 a.m. until noon.

The session is for tourism operators, frontline staff and the general public. The session will feature a number of presentations. YASTA will be among the presenters, along with Bay Ferries, the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia and the Yarmouth Visitor Information Centre.

The tour will be held the next day – Friday, June 1 – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting and ending at the Grand Hotel.

The tour will take participants to various tourism attractions. Only 30 people can be accommodated on the tour and there is a $20 fee. The tour will include a stop for lunch, where participants will be responsible to pay for their meal (or they may bring their own food).

Tourism Week is a chance to get the word out about the importance of the tourism sector.

“We all can play a role in ensuring visitors to Yarmouth & Acadian Shores have a great experience,” said YASTA executive director Neil MacKenzie. “YASTA is offering tourism readiness sessions and familiarization tours of the region so operators have the opportunity to learn from each other and learn what new experiences there are for 2018. Sessions like this are a good way to ensure our industry is ready to answer questions visitors may have, recommend experiences and attractions.”

Aside from YASTA, Bay Ferries, TIANS and the Rodd Grand Yarmouth, partners in the local Tourism Week events include the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce, which, in a notice promoting the information session and familiarization tour, encourages its members to take part.

“There are so many touch points for tourists travelling our region,” the chamber says, “and we all have a role to play in making a great impression.”

Anyone interested in attending the information session was asked to RSVP by contacting the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association. YASTA also is the contact point for those who would like to register for the tour.
