DIGBY, NS – Two men saw an unidentified object during the early morning hours of October 11, and have no idea what it could have been.
Miles Graham works with the overnight crew at Superstore along with his co-worker, Josh Snyder.
Both were standing outside on their break at 4:15 a.m. when a bright, rectangular, glowing orange object suddenly appeared across the parking lot, in the back lot between McDonald’s and Tim Horton’s.
“I just couldn’t believe what I saw. I stargaze all the time, and we’ve seen some pretty weird things here, but never anything so bright or strange before,” said Graham.
What the first eyewitness saw
Graham describes feeling shocked as he witnessed the bright shape take form.
“I noticed it out the corner of my eye, looked over and saw a super bright orange shape. My first thought was, ‘what the heck is that?’” he said.
“It wasn’t the sun, because it was too early. It moved higher, got even brighter, lasted 15 seconds, and then disappeared.”
The object he saw was rectangular but positioned diagonally, had defined edges and a noticeable top.
It stretched above the sheds near Tim Horton’s, rose up until in line with the electric pole’s wires, and then disappeared.
After having seen it, Graham still feels in shock, because the object traveled up, not down, as if working against gravity.
“I was pointing, saying look, and that’s when Josh saw it. It just went – it didn’t go back down, it just disappeared,” said Graham.
“It was big, whatever it was.”
What the second eyewitness saw
Snyder didn’t take note of the object’s specific shape, but was amazed at its brightness.
“The orange light shot up, and looked like it came up over the bay,” said Snyder.
“It certainly was a stunning moment and wasn’t the first time we’ve seen lights appear in the direction we were looking.”
Store employees have seen power transformer explosions, a blue meteor, and other phenomena during their night shifts.
While they were certain those had explanations, they cannot find one for this sighting.
A family history of UFO sightings
Graham’s father, Orland, was an ambulance driver and was on duty October 4, 1967, when Canada’s most famous UFO sighting happened in Shag Harbour.
Orland recounted the story countless times over the years, explaining how he saw the strange lights and yellow froth on the water and tried to reach the area, but the military wouldn’t let him through.
His father’s experience had a profound impact on Graham. When asked whether he thinks a coincidence between the incidents, which happened exactly 50 years and one week apart, were related, Graham shook his head.
“All I know is I’ve seen some strange things in my time. Some have been explained, and most have not,” he said.
