The site holds potential to eventually be connected with the Broad Brook Park trail to create a large park for the community and continue the protection of the brook.
Hours of operation for the park and other regulations involving use will be established as the project develops.
The town’s dog bylaw will apply to owners during their use of the park. This includes picking up after their pets.
Committee member Paul Trask will be presenting an updated procedure plan to Yarmouth town council on March 9.
Stage 1 will include land clearing, site grading, construction of parking lot for 20 vehicles, fencing, benches, signage, bag dispensers and waste receptacles for an estimated cost of $109,000.
Funding, donations of materials and/or in-kind labour will be sought for much of the project.
The Town of Yarmouth provided the $15,000 cost of the design company, which provided a topographical survey of the site, several layouts, estimates and other information.
Maurice E. Lloyd has been providing planning services for the Town of Yarmouth during the absence of planner Caroline Robertson, who is on maternity leave.
“Right now, the committee has taken ownership of that document and they’re now talking about how they can implement it,” he said.
“That’s an important step.”
