The Acadia women’s basketball team is back on the winning track after sweeping a weekend series from the UPEI Panthers.
The Axewomen won 92-62 Friday evening, then set an unofficial new school record for points in a game in a 99-70 victory Saturday afternoon.
Second-year guard Kristy Moore was the story offensively for Acadia, scoring 23 points Friday and adding 28 more Saturday. Both point totals were team-highs.
On Friday, Acadia led 21-16 after one quarter, and held a 40-28 lead at halftime. The Axewomen put the game away with a 25-12 third quarter, then for good measure, won the fourth quarter 27-22.
Moore, who also had nine rebounds, was supported by 13 points and seven boards from Abbey Duinker, 12 points from Emma Duinker and 11 from Stefanie Chapman.
The Acadia bench players all saw action as head coach Bev Greenlaw was able to substitute freely as the Acadia lead surpassed 30 points.
Jenna Jones finished with 16 and Amy Gough 10 for UPEI.
On Saturday, Acadia built a 45-28 halftime lead and won the third quarter 33-14, but the Panthers, to their credit, finished strong, winning the fourth quarter 28-21.
In addition to Moore, whose 28 points included five three-pointers, Emma Duinker added 17 points and Jasmine Parent 13.
For a second straight game, all 12 Acadia players saw action, and 11 of the 12 finished with at least two points.
Gough had 18 and Jones 13 to lead the UPEI offence.
At the start of the week Acadia had wrapped up a first-round playoff bye and could clinch first place by winning one of the three remaining games.
