YARMOUTH -- The Yarmouth Gateways will not play in the Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball League this season.

Due to a lack of players, the team is taking a leave of absence from the NSIBL this year.

The league’s lone tri-county entry in 2017 will be the Shelburne County Schooners.

The league’s lineup for this season also includes the Hantsport Shamrocks, Kennetcook Braves, Noel Road Blue Jays, Pictou County Albions, Pictou County Royals and Windsor Knights, along with a new entry from Truro.

The Schooners are slated to play their first home games of the season June 11 against the Royals. Scheduled start times are 1 and 3 p.m. at the Sherose Island field.

The Schooners’ 2017 roster will include Tristan Reede, who had pitched for the Gateways in recent years.

This will be the first time in a quite a while the Gateways play neither intermediate nor senior league ball.
