YARMOUTH -- The Yarmouth Midget Gateways were in New Waterford over the weekend, where they captured the 2017 provincial midget A baseball title.

The Gateways defeated the Prospect Mariners 12-9 in the tournament’s championship game. Skyler Baxter was the winning pitcher and was named player of the game.

Yarmouth’s Dylan d’Entremont was the tournament’s most valuable player, teammate Brandon Carroll was the tournament’s top hitter and fellow Yarmouth player Trevor Fehr was the top pitcher.

The Gateways had to win three straight games Sunday to become provincial champs. The team went 4-1 overall for the weekend, their lone loss coming in their second game, a 3-2 defeat in eight innings to New Waterford. (Aside from a couple of exhibition game losses back in June, this was the Gateways' only defeat of the year.)

“This was an extremely successful season for these boys,” said Yarmouth coach Gary Baxter. “They performed exceptionally all year long. A huge thank-you goes out to their families, friends and most of all Yarmouth Area Minor Baseball Association for making this all possible.”

A recap of Yarmouth’s games in this past weekend’s provincials:
