The final score saw Millwood High at 28 to Avon View’s 12, bringing Avon View’s record to 2-2 for the season at the halfway point.
Gordon Chase, coach of the Avalanche said penalties worked against the team throughout the game.
“Rain in the first half slowed the game pace and a lot of penalties on AV gave Millwood some good field position that they capitalized on,” Chase said. “We took a lot less penalties in the second half and were able hold them off the board and in the fourth things started clicking for us and we were able to put two in the end zone, but a couple bad snaps with a wet and dirty ball caused us to not make the converts”
Bryant Chambers and Darien Wile with the Avalanche both managed touchdowns during the last seven minutes of the game.
Chase said a few of the players were off with the flu as well, which may have played a factor.
The Avalanche are heading on the road to play West Kings in the Turkey Bowl on Oct. 10.
On Oct. 16 the Avalanche will host West Kings at Avon View at 1 p.m.
Despite the loss on Oct. 2, Chase said he believes the team can turn things around.
“I think we learned a lot as a team from this game, going forward we know what we have to focus on and get better at,” he said. “Hopefully we will have some of our injured players and players that were away back in the line up to help strengthen us going forward.”
“Even if we don't we have a great bunch of new kids that are getting better with each practice and games,” he added.
