Canadian Mixed Curling Championship opening ceremony in Yarmouth
YARMOUTH, N.S. – The Canadian Mixed Curling Championship got underway in Yarmouth on the evening of Sunday, Nov. 13.
YARMOUTH – An information and sign-up session for those interested in helping out with this summer’s national old-timers baseball tournament in Yarmouth will be held Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Rodd Grand Hotel.
Anyone who would like to volunteer but who cannot make the meeting can contact Derek Amalfa, volunteer coordinator, at 902-307-2492, or Darryl LeBlanc, chair of the tournament host committee, at 902-740-3261.
The Canadian National Oldtimers Baseball Federation will hold its national championships in Yarmouth July 31 to Aug. 3.
The host committee says a good number of volunteers will be needed to put on the tournament.
“There is plenty of work to do when you have over 30 baseball teams and their families coming to Yarmouth from across Canada for a summertime weekend of ball, a banquet, ceremonies and spare time to enjoy local tourist activities,” says a media release issued in advance of the April 18 session at the Grand Hotel.
“A small army of volunteers is needed” for this summer’s tournament, the host committee says.
Yarmouth last hosted the national event in 2009 and has had it three times all told.
“Yarmouth really hit it out of the park the past three times we hosted,” the release says, “and the support of our local volunteers played a major league role in this success.”
For this year’s tournament, volunteers will be needed for things like field coordination, information and hospitality, opening ceremonies, banquet, scorekeeping and more.
