The Western Hurricanes Major Bantam team, which has many Yarmouth players on it, and also players from Barrington and Clare, are in Cape Breton competing at the Nova Scotia Major Bantam provincials and will play in Sunday's championship game against Halifax.

As of Friday the team had won both of its first two games. You can follow provincials results on the Nova Scotia Major Bantam website.

The Hurricanes’ first win was a 5-0 shutout over the Mobil 1 Barons. Jaron Bollivar opened the scoring early in the first period with the eventual game winner as Colby Muise of Yarmouth stopped all 20 shots fired his way in the Hurricane net to record the shutout.  Adding single markers were Keith Getson, Logan Walters, Cameron Jacquard of Wedgeport and Jacob Myra.  

In their second game over the Kings Mutual Wildcats the Hurricanes built a 6-0 lead in the game that they eventually won 8-3. Christopher Goreham and Jerod Scott, both of Shelburne County, each scored with Keith Getson, Quinten Johnson of Yarmouth, Travis Parks and Jacob Myra adding a goal each. Cody Burghardt scored two for the Wildcats and Gregor Macleod added the third.

The Hurricanes' third win was a 5-1 victory over Newbridge Academy, which advances the Hurricanes to the semi-finals. Captain Keith Getson scored the first four goals of the game and Jaron Bollivar added the fifth.

The Hurricanes play Saturday at 10 a.m. against the Breton Sports Cougars. The Hurricanes had a 3-0 lead heading into the third period, but Cape Breton scored five goals in the third period for a 5-3 win.

The Hurricanes defeated the Bubba Rays on Saturday evening 3-1, moving the team into the March 10 championship game against Halifax.

The BMO Western Hurricanes earned a berth in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League Provincial Championships by sweeping their playoff series in two straight games against the Cole Harbour - Eastern Shore Storm.

League awards were also handed out at provincials. The Hurricanes’ Keith Getson received awards for being the league’s top scorer and top forward and was also named to the 1st all-star team.
