The team had won the New Brunswick Cup in Moncton in late April and won the PEI Cup in Summerside in early May.
Ten members of the Thunder team are from Yarmouth and Clare, they are: Cody Rennehan, Jeremy Charles, Ben Charles, Jaden Watkins, Max Nickerson, Justin Surette, Evan Saulnier, Mario Boudreau, Leon Bouchard and Zack LeBlanc. The other team members are from the Bridgewater/Lunenburg area – Mason Beck, Cameron Lohnes, Tyler Cross, Cole Spidle, Rylan Mayo and Logan Nauss – and one player, Joe Parsons, is from the Valley. The team was coached by Terry Beck, Colin Watkins and Cy Mayo.
Thunder won the Nova Scotia Cup with a 4-1 win over the Lynx from northern New Brunswick on Sunday, May 24. Ben Charles and Leon Bouchard each scored two goals. Mario Boudreau had two assists and Mason Beck had one. In net was Cody Rennehan.

During its spring season Thunder had a record of 14 wins and 1 loss. In its 15 games the team scored 75 goals and had only 17 scored against it. It went undefeated in two tournaments.
Southwest Thunder defeated the Vipers from the Moncton region 2-0 to win the New Brunswick Cup on April 26 and on May 10 had defeated the PEI Extreme, a provincial all-star team, 4-1 to win the PEI Cup.
