A Canadian Tire street hockey tournament in support of the Jumpstart program will be held Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13 at the Yarmouth Mariners Centre parking lot.

The divisions for the tournament are:

• Novice (born 2004-2005)

• Atom (born 2002-2003)

• Peewee (born 2000-2001)

• Bantam (born 1998-1999)

Each participant must bring a caged helmet, hockey gloves, hockey stick, sneakers, water bottle and sunscreen.

Each team also provides their own goalie gear. Other recommended gear are elbow pads, jock/jill and shin pads.

The times of the event are 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 12 and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 13, with awards presentations to follow.

The tournament will take place rain or shine.

Registrations will be accepted until July 5 or a division has reached its full maximum of 12 teams.

Registrations are being accepted at the following locations: Yarmouth Recreation (742-8868), Argyle Recreation (648-3379), Yarmouth YMCA (742-7181), Clare Recreation (769-3655), Town of Lockeport (656-2565), Municipality of Shelburne Recreations and Parks (875-3544, ext. 225).

Teams will be made up of a minimum of six players, including the goalie. The cost is $10 per player.

One chaperone per team (someone 18 years old or older) is required.

This event is part of the celebrations that will take place on July 13 when Cottage Street, leading to the Mariners Centre, is renamed Jody Shelley Drive in honour of Shelley's commitment to Yarmouth throughout his years in the NHL.
