Kaleb Boudreau, the son of Scotty and Deborah in Melbourne, Yarmouth County, plays hockey for Newbridge Academy this year. He was selected 12th overall in the all-star U16 game draft, and was the second defenceman selected in the draft.

“I am very proud and honoured to have the opportunity to play in the game. I've been working very hard on and off the ice and I feel this is a great chance to show them what I can do,” Boudreau says, saying his time at Newbridge has been great and he’s been very busy with his school work and his hockey. He was selected team captain by his coaches.

“I have been working very hard over the past year to improve my game defensively. Recently being at Newbridge I've been working on my skating after practices with my defence coach,” the teenager says. “We've been focusing on getting me faster so I can compete with the more skilled players.”

The ECEL All-Star Event will be held on Friday evening, Dec. 9, as a part of the ECEL WinterFest Showcase.

The top players from the respective 16U and 18U divisions will head to Harvard to play games in front of what is expected to be the most highly-viewed event of the 2016-17 ECEL season.

Prior to Newbridge, Boudreau played on the Western Hurricanes Bantam Major team.

He says hockey has always been a huge part of life.

“Hockey has taught me so many things and without it I wouldn't be where I am today,” he says. “I think hockey will always be a part of my life, whether I am playing, coaching, or just being a fan.”
