Yarmouth was seeded third going into the eight-team high school regionals tournament.

In round robin play the Vikings defeated Central Kings 8-0 and then defeated Bridgetown 4-3 in overtime. They also defeated West Kings 3-1, which advanced them to the championship game played in Middleton on Tuesday, March 3.

Yarmouth won the final game by a score of 5-1.

Yarmouth goals during regionals were scored by Shayna Heroux, Laura Legere, Lauren Goudey, Hallie Moore and Riley Macdonald and Emma Fitzgerald. Assists were contributed by Olivia Eyre, Jordan Ferguson, Alyssa Olsen and Gigi Goetz.

Lindsey Minard was in net for all of the wins.

High school Division 2 female provincials are being held March 28 and 29 in Kingston and are being hosted by West Kings. The host and the top four seeded teams from regionals advanced to provincials – meaning West Kings, Yarmouth, Middleton,  Horton and Bridgetown all advanced.

Prior to regionals the Yarmouth high school team has played some exhibition games with Barrington and Par-en-Bas, and did a regionals qualifier with PEB. The Yarmouth team also competed in the Cook’s Cup tournament in December. But because the team is not part of the Valley High School Hockey League the team has not been on the ice for regular league games and therefore hasn’t played together much as a team during the season.

Members of the team play bantam or midget rep.

The girls’ team from Par-en-Bas, which also did not play league games this season, also competed at regionals, but didn’t have the wins needed to advance to provincials.
