After defeating Barrington 35-20 Tuesday in Hebron, it looked like the Maple Grove Education Centre girls basketball team was on its way to the western regional championships, but the Panthers will have to play another game to try to secure a spot in next week’s regionals.

Because there were only two teams competing for the Yarmouth/Shelburne district, a school from the valley – Northeast Kings Education Centre – has challenged Maple Grove for a berth in the regionals.

The result is that NKEC will visit Maple Grove today (Thursday, Feb. 22) for a game that is scheduled for 5 p.m.

NKEC placed third in its own district tournament.

As for Maple Grove’s Feb. 20 win over Barrington, Zoe Schwan led the Panthers with 14 points and teammate Ellie Hiltz had eight.

Jade Newell led Barrington scorers with 12 points.

The regional championships are scheduled for Feb. 27 in the valley.
