The Yarmouth Heat competed in the Provincial Juvenile Division 1 Girls Basketball tournament in Halifax at the Canada Games Center over the April 13-15 where the team won the gold medal. The Yarmouth team played five games over the weekend and had a record of four wins and one loss.

On Friday, April 13, the Yarmouth squad played the Halifax Steelers, winning by a score of 73 to 47. High scorers were Allie Berry with 14 ,Gene Lacroix with 13 and Olivia Fells with 10.

On Saturday, April 14, Yarmouth first played Osprey-2, winning that game 58 to 44. High scorers were Allie Berry with 25, Gene Lacroix with nine, and Samantha MacDougall with eight.

Later that afternoon the Heat played Osprey-1, losing in a close contest that ended in a 68 to 63 score. High scorers were Allie Berry with 25. Chelsea Surette and Samantha MacDougall each had nine points.

On Sunday, April 15, the Heat played the Steelers in a semi-final game, winning by a score of 63 to 35. High scorers were Kristen Fitzgerald with 14, Allie Berry with 12, and Samantha MacDougall with 10.

In the championship game the Yarmouth Heat defeated Osprey-1 by a score of 71 to 56. High scorers were Allie Berry with 32, Gene Lacroix with 12 and Samantha MacDougall with 10.

The team’s coaches said the girls showed incredible heart and determination, playing through injuries and fatigue as they battled their way to the gold medal.

Player of the Game awards were given to Samantha MacDougall, Kristen Fitzgerald, Katelyn Surette, and Ashley Mooney.

Ashley Mooney and Gene Lacroix were named to the All Star Team.

Allie Berry was named the Tournament MVP.
