Yarmouth County athletes shine in Aylesford Lake Triathlon

A couple of Yarmouth County athletes took the top two positions – finishing 39 seconds apart – in the Aylesford Lake Triathlon.

Chris Mackenzie posted a time of 2:15:33 to top the field in the July 15 race’s Olympic distance competition, with fellow Yarmouth County resident Bryan Hipson taking second in 2:16:12.

Both were competing in the 50-to-54-year-old division.

Mackenzie did the 1.5-kilometre swim in 22:38, covered the bike portion in 1:05:19 and did the 10K run in 45:54.

Hipson had splits of 25:48 for the swim, 1:08:05 for the bike and 38:53 for the run.

Neil Lang of Halifax, competing in the male 25-to-29 category, was third overall with a time of 2:16:35.

Adam Aldred of Yarmouth County was first in the “aquabike” race, part of the Aylesford event, where participants only do the swim and bike. Aldred led the way with an overall time of 1:34:21, including 23:54 for the swim and 1:09:38 for the bike. He was in the 40-44-year-old division.
