“We are in the planning stages for the 2017-18 season, seeking coaches, scheduling tryouts and a checking clinic for new bantam-level players trying out for rep,” says YCMHA president Ian White.

If you have any questions regarding registration, contact the YCMHA registrar John D'Arcy at 902-742-8868 or [email protected].
There will also be a registration night at the Yarmouth Mariners Centre on Wednesday, Sept. 6 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
“Once again, first-time players, male or female, any division will receive 50 per cent off their player registration fees,” says White. He reminds parents and caregivers that new players require birth certificate.
He also cautions people to register before Sept. 23 to avoid a $50 late fee.

“It is really important for people to register by Sept. 22 because there is so much planning required to evaluate players, balance teams, determine the number of teams, and meet the Hockey Nova Scotia registration requirements,” White says.

There is also funding assistance through programs such as Canadian Tire Jump Start, Yarmouth Recreation’s Kids First Fund and KidSport, and the JStrong Foundation.

“We also have all kinds of goalie gear for use from Novice through Pee Wee,” White adds.

White adds the association is also seeking coaches at all levels.

REGISTRATION FOR COMPETITIVE TRYOUTS

Players looking to attend Yarmouth County Minor Hockey Association competitive tryouts must register with the association by Sept. 6. Also, players from outside of YCMHA must be registered with their home association, have a release signed, and register for YCMHA competitive tryouts by Sept. 6.

There is a $50 tryout fee that must be paid by the registration date and any player not registered by that time will not be permitted on the ice. The tryout schedule will be posted on the YCMHA website prior to the start of tryouts.
“We will not be accepting any payment or registration at any of the tryouts,” says YCMHA president Ian White.

FIRST SHIFT BACK FOR A THIRD YEAR

The Yarmouth County Minor Hockey Association (YCMHA) is excited to be hosting the Canadian Tire First Shift program again this year.

YCMHA partners with the Yarmouth Mariners to provide the ice and training for children who have never played the game of hockey before.

First Shift provides brand new hockey gear for all participants. The entire program costs $199 to participants.

“The program is designed to take away any intimidation as it relates to equipment requirements, and/or rules of the game, remove potential safety concerns, and most importantly, provide an experience that is memorable and fun,” says YCMHA president Ian White.

Registration is open now and can be accessed online via www.firstshift.ca. From there just look for Yarmouth under Locations and register from there.

The launch day will be Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Yarmouth Mariners Centre. During the launch registered participants are fitted with their new gear.

MIDGET A IDENTIFICATION SESSION

The Yarmouth County Minor Hockey Association is planning to ice a Midget A team for the 2017-18 season. The association will be holding an on-ice identification session on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mariners Centre.

The cost is $10 payable that evening, however players must be registered for the coming season with their association before going on the ice.
YCMHA registration for the upcoming season opened at Yarmouth Recreation on Aug. 14.
Players attending the Sept. 5 session are asked to let rep director Craig Prouty (email: [email protected]) know ahead of time. The minor hockey association will use the identification session to determine if there are enough players for a team and/or whether tryouts will be needed.
