Yarmouth finishes second, Par-en-Bas third in NSSAF high school hockey girls regionals

YARMOUTH, N.S. – The Yarmouth Vikings girls high school hockey team hosted NSSAF Division 2 regionals Feb. 27 and 28, finishing second in the tournament. 

Yarmouth – which went 3-1 in the tournament – defeated Bridgetown in their first game 4-2. Scoring for Yarmouth were Saige Breton (Hallie Moore, Carlie Jeffery), Hallie Moore (Saige Breton), Grace Hobbs (Hallie Moore, Kat Kini) and Kenzie Muise (Hannah Thurston, Caileigh White).

Yarmouth next defeated Central Kings 5-1. Scoring for Yarmouth was Saige Breton with 3 goals assisted by Grace Hobbs, Hannah Thurston, Sharlie Pinksen and Kat Kini. Also scoring were Hallie Moore (Saige Breton, Isabelle Olsen) and Kat Kini (Kenzie Muise, Grace Hobbs).

Yarmouth's wins on Day 1 of regionals advanced them to the semi-finals where the Vikings defeated Par-en-Bas 3-0. Scoring all three goals for Yarmouth was Saige Breton with assists from Hallie Moore, Grace Hobbs and Laura Jones.

In the championship Yarmouth was defeated by West Kings by a score of 2-0.

Caileigh White was in net for the Vikings for all games.

The Yarmouth Vikings will host provincials March 23-25. Advancing to provincials from the regionals tournament are West Kings, Yarmouth, Par-en-Bas and Middleton. There will also be two teams from the Highland Region at provincials.

In their regional games, Par-en-Bas – which also has players from Clare, and was the other local team competing at regionals – defeated Middleton 3-0 in their first game. Goal scorers were Angèle LeBlanc, Jenna Comeau and Nina Hannah.

Par-en-Bas then had a 6-1 loss to West Kings with Grace Spinney scoring for the Sharks.
PEB’s next game was a 5-1 win over Bridgetown. Angele LeBlanc had three goals. Also scoring were Grace Spinney and Josette Thibodeau.

After losing 3-0 to Yarmouth, Par-en-Bas went on to defeat Middleton 2-0. Scoring were Josie d’Entremont and Jenna Comeau.
By the end of that game Par-en-Bas had played six consecutive periods of hockey as their final two games were back-to-back.

Kennedy Pitman was in net for Par-en-Bas throughout the tournament.

Par-en-Bas had qualified for regionals after defeating NKEC in a qualifying game. Angèle LeBlanc had scored all four of PEB’s goals in that game.
