YARMOUTH - The Yarmouth Shark Scramble was a close contest this year with 1.1 pounds separating the first and second place prize winning fish.
Taking top honours was Chris Cushing aboard the vessel Lurcher Shoal with a 347.2-pound blue shark. Second place went to Corey Irons aboard the vessel Sea Fever III who landed a 346.1-pound blue shark. In third place was Ryan Leblanc from the fishing vessel Amanda and Allison with a 308.6-pound blue shark.
Blue sharks were the only species permitted to be landed during this year’s scramble. A team of researchers from Dalhousie University were onsite to conduct testing and take samples during the weigh-in, which provide valuable stock status data.
This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Yarmouth Shark Scramble. The grand prize winner of the 4-Wheeler donated by Leonard C. Comeau and Honda was David Wiscock, Glace Bay, who was aboard the Irish Rebel, one of the 18 boats that participated in this year’s event.
