Nova Star Cruises Ltd., announces that Julie Walters, a seasoned tourism professional in the province of Nova Scotia, has joined the company as director, Nova Star Discovery Program.

The Nova Star Discovery program will provide travelers with turn-key vacation experiences that bundle passage on Nova Star with select tourism offerings throughout Atlantic Canada and New England.

“Julie is another accomplished tourism expert we’re adding to our team,” said Owen John, vice president, Sales & Marketing, Nova Star Cruises. “Her expertise and relationships in the region’s tourism industry will ensure that our guests have access to vacation experiences in both regions that are unique and affordable.”

Walters will be based in Yarmouth and serve as a key member of the marketing team, playing an integral role in developing marketing strategies and long-term objectives.  As the Nova Star Discovery program director, she will manage the product offerings and drive the timely and successful launch of new tourism products and packages into the marketplace in support of the Company's marketing plan.

“I’m looking forward to creating exciting vacation packages for passengers on Nova Star to enjoy in the beautiful regions of Nova Scotia and Maine,” said Walters. “With a brand new ship that offers so many wonderful amenities for all ages, our guests’ vacations will truly begin the moment they step on board, and will only get better once the ship reaches its destination."

Most recently, Walters was general manager of the Yarmouth & Acadian Shores Tourism Association, where she oversaw the refinement and implementation of the organization’s vision and mandate to invigorate the region’s tourism. Earlier on, she served as a tourism development officer at the Regional Development Authority in Yarmouth, where she focused on the development and marketing of new tourism products, and as the marketing manager of The Manor Inn Lakeside Resort in Yarmouth.

Starting in 2014, Nova Star Cruises will provide daily round-trip ferry service aboard the brand new, 161-metre cruise ferry, Nova Star, between Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and Portland, Maine.

Nova Star Cruises estimates that more than 100,000 passengers will step aboard the Nova Star in the first year of operation. Nova Star will leave Portland each evening at 8 p.m. EST and arrive in Yarmouth at 7 a.m. AST the next morning. The ship will depart two hours later and arrive back in Portland at 5 p.m. local time.

With three restaurants, including sit down fine dining and a buffet, a theater, casino and live entertainment, plus a spa, art gallery and more, Nova Star will provide a wealth of on-board amenities for passengers to enjoy during the voyage.
