MARTOCK, N.S. – Snow machines have been coating the Ski Martock Resort full tilt for the past number of days and weeks in order to get the place up an running as soon as possible.

The good news? It’s ready.

Martock's Andy MacLean said that the weather has worked somewhat in their favour and they plan to have their first fully opened day on Dec. 21, 2017 at 9planned to have their first fully opened day on Dec. 21 at 9 a.m.

“The weather is always a challenge. Mother Nature is a cruel, cruel woman sometimes,” MacLean said. “We made some great snow and then the temperature climbed and then dropped and we expect it to climb again and drop again.”

MacLean said the ski hill usually tries to open during the second weekend of December, but it’s completely weather dependent.

“This year we’re a week later, there have been years when we’ve been a week earlier, it’s a pretty arbitrary number, but it’s a goal,” he said. “Generally, we believe that good snow making temperatures are here.”

He said that people are chomping at the bit to hit the slopes, often asking when they’re set to open on their various social media feeds.

MacLean says their primary business is their season pass holders.

Lots of events are already planned for what’s expected to be a busy winter season.

The resort will hire up to 200 people throughout the season.
