HILLGROVE, NS- The Roof Hound Brewing Company is the first Digby County restaurant to enter in Burger Wars, the Campaign for Kids.

Les Barr, Co-Owner of Roof Hound Brewing Co, is excited for the new experience.

“We’re really looking forward to participating, it’s for a great cause and who doesn’t love burgers,” he said.

Burger Wars is a friendly competition between restaurants from Windsor to Digby. The winner receives bragging rights, a burger-themed trophy and prizes from J.R. Mahoney, a food service equipment company in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

The Digby restaurant is the only location South of Bridgetown to enter the competition this year.

Barr, Chef Drake Griegoschewski and staff at Roof Hound Brewing Co have been taste testing for two months to create the perfect entry.

Roof Hound Brewing is entering a burger called ‘Beet It’. It consists of a house baked beet juice bun, a 5oz patty with a blend of beef and local pork, topped with mozzarella, beet greens, house marinara, garlic aioli and pickled beets.

Barr plans to use the full beet for the burger, leaving no left overs, he says.

“We’re really trying to create as little waste as possible.”

The Beet It burger officially launches April 2.

There are 41 restaurants participating in the competition this year, said Co-Organizer of Burger Wars, Laura Churchill Duke.

“We were so thrilled when Roof Hound Brewing Company contacted us about wanting to participate in Burger Wars 2018,” she said in an email.

Participants can download a burger passport online. For every five restaurants visited, participants will receive a ballot for the grand prize draw in May for a $400 gift certificate for the Quarterdeck Beachside Villas & Grill.
