YARMOUTH, N.S. — The passenger vessel MS FRAM, operated by the Hurtigruten Group of Norway, will be visiting the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores region on Oct. 3.
The MS FRAM is an expedition class cruise ship and is expected to be at anchor in the mouth of Yarmouth harbour at approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, and depart by 2 p.m.
FRAM guests will be tendered to Killam Brothers Marina in Yarmouth. Once landed, guests of the FRAM may choose excursions to the Tusket Islands, Cape Forchu or visit downtown Yarmouth. Downtown vendors may expect FRAM passengers to visit their businesses during the day.
The Yarmouth & Acadian Shores Tourism Association (YASTA) is a member of the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association (ACCA) and a partner of Cruise Canada New England (CCNE). Both organizations work collectively to grow the cruise market in New England and Atlantic Canada.
YASTA and municipal partners are working together to grow cruise ship visitation to the region.
“The cruise market is a real option for us and is a growing market. The expedition cruise market is of particular interest for Yarmouth & Acadian Shores,” says Neil Mackenzie, executive director of YASTA. “Yarmouth & Acadian Shores is well-positioned to attract more ships because we have year-round customs operations and can accommodate ships directly from the U.S. Plus, we can offer great excursions for cruise passengers.”
“It’s wonderful to see international guests visiting Yarmouth & Acadian Shores, especially in the fall,” said Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood. “We’re all trying to find ways to extend the tourism season and the cruise market is one way to do that. We love welcoming guests to Yarmouth and love seeing them in our shops and restaurants.”
The MS FRAM visited Yarmouth & Acadian Shores in April and May this year. This is the fourth scheduled visit for the FRAM to the Port of Yarmouth this year.
