This is a year of change for the annual business awards presented by the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce, which are moving to the Mariners Centre.
The awards ceremony for 2019 is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24.
Awards will be presented in 10 categories, including two new ones.
Previously, the awards ceremony had been held at the Rodd Grand Hotel.
“We are moving to the Mariners Centre as a result of the popularity of the event,” said Rick Allwright, executive director of the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce. “The event has been a sellout for a number of years and we felt it was time to move to a bigger venue in which we can host a high-calibre event and have a larger capacity. It is our signature event and something that the business community does look forward to.”
The chamber recently announced it had opened the nomination process for its 14th annual business awards, which this year include two new categories: Business Leader of the Year and Artisan Business of the Year.
The nomination deadline is Sept. 6. Those submitting nominations are asked to be detailed in why the person or business they’re nominating deserves the award.
The nominees will be reviewed by a judging panel consisting of three members of the business community who are not on the chamber’s board of directors.
Chamber membership is not required either for those submitting a nomination or for the person or business they’re nominating.

Tickets for the awards ceremony go on sale Sept. 7 and include a three-course meal. Doors at the Oct. 24 event will open at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m.
