As the calendar turned from October to November, about 200 tickets had been sold for the Tri-County Flying Association’s annual vehicle lottery.
A maximum of 444 of them are available for the lottery, the flying association’s regular fundraiser, which will culminate Feb. 9 at the Rodd Grand Hotel in Yarmouth, where there will be entertainment, food and, of course, prize draws. The grand prize is a 2019 Mazda CX3 or $20,000.
The lottery is very important to the flying association, said Charles MacIsaac, the lottery chairperson.
The association has 30 flying members and another 20 social members.
“Even if you’re not a pilot, you can be a social member and come to social events, come to meetings,” MacIsaac said.
The flying association has an airplane that is used by CASARA (Civil Air Search and Rescue Association) for search operations and the association also offers scholarships to air cadets.
Kris Cann, the association’s president, said they try to promote interest in aviation, perhaps inspire young people to get involved.
“It’s important that we kind of get it out there, promote aviation,” he said, “so that all the young people that are coming up, graduating high school, wondering what they’re going to do,” might consider aviation or a related field as a career option.
MacIsaac notes that this is the association’s third year partnering on the lottery with Yarmouth Mazda.
“They’ve been great partners,” he said. “They create a buzz within the community.”
Said Josh Allen, sales consultant with Yarmouth Mazda, “We enjoy it. It’s a great event.”
The lottery’s grand prize vehicle normally can be seen at the Yarmouth Mazda dealership. It may show up at a couple of Yarmouth Junior A Mariners hockey games too. (Additional lottery prizes include 2019 season tickets for two for the Yarmouth junior A team.) There also are plans for an activity involving the vehicle and the Yarmouth Food Bank.
For those who may be looking for Christmas gift ideas, MacIsaac says a vehicle lottery ticket is a great stocking stuffer. Those who purchase tickets by Dec. 20 are eligible for an early-bird prize (a $500 value).
Tickets are $100 and purchasers can bring a guest with them to the lottery event on Feb. 9.
Tickets are available at Yarmouth Mazda and at the Yarmouth airport or people can call 902-746-3842.
